Payment Information
How much will it cost to see Associate Professor Farid Meybodi?
The cost for the initial consultation is $400. The cost for a follow-up consultation within 12 months is $200. When you book your appointment, our team will email you the consultation fee information and any required forms.
Is there a Medicare rebate for my consultation?
Yes, if you have Medicare and a current referral.
After your payment is received, our staff can submit your claim directly to Medicare. We will provide a statement showing your Medicare rebate.
Why do I need a referral if I have seen Associate Professor Meybodi before?
Medicare requires a current referral before you can receive a rebate for a specialist consultation. A referral from another specialist usually lasts 3 months.
How does Associate Professor Farid Meybodi bill for operations and procedures?
The cost of surgery depends on the type of procedure, the complexity of your condition, and your private health insurance coverage. Before any operation, we will provide you with written information about the expected surgical fee and any out-of-pocket costs.
Understanding surgical costs
Surgical costs can vary from patient to patient.
Two operations may sound similar, but the actual surgery can be very different depending on your condition, your anatomy, previous treatment, whether reconstruction is required, and the complexity of the procedure.
Your total cost may include:
Surgeon fees
Anaesthetist fees
Hospital fees
Because of this, it is important to look at the full cost of care, not just one part of the fee.
Our approach to fees
We aim to keep fees fair, clear, and reasonable. We understand that cost is important for patients. Our approach is to provide high-quality, individualised care while avoiding unnecessary financial burden where possible.
More complex surgery does not automatically mean that patients will be charged a much higher fee. We aim to balance surgical expertise with accessibility.
Types of surgical billing
There are three main ways surgical fees may be billed.
Patient invoiced directly
An invoice is issued directly to you.
We will tell you before surgery what the expected fee will be and what your out-of-pocket cost is likely to be.
After payment, we will provide a receipt so you can claim from Medicare and your health fund.
Known-gap
Some health funds allow a known-gap arrangement.
This means the health fund pays part of the surgical fee directly, and you pay a known out-of-pocket amount.
You will be told in writing what this gap payment is before surgery.
No-gap
With a no-gap arrangement, the surgical fee is billed directly to your private health insurance provider.
This means you will not have an out-of-pocket surgical fee from Associate Professor Meybodi.
For many unilateral breast cancer operations involving one or two Medicare item numbers, a no-gap arrangement may be available, depending on your health fund and level of cover.
Our staff will check this for you and let you know before your surgery.
Please note
Medicare and your private health insurance usually contribute to the surgeon and anaesthetist fees, while your health fund generally covers hospital accommodation. However, as these contributions may not cover the full cost, there may be an out-of-pocket gap, and some services such as pathology, imaging, or other related costs may be billed separately.
Our team will help you understand the expected costs before your admission.
Choosing care
Cost is important, but it should not be the only factor when choosing surgical care.
Other important factors include surgical experience, decision-making, access to appropriate techniques, multidisciplinary care, safety, and expected outcomes.
Our commitment
We are committed to clear communication, written cost estimates, and transparent discussion about fees before surgery.
Every patient’s situation is different. If you have any questions about costs, please contact our rooms during office hours, and we will help you understand your expected fees before you proceed.
